Our Flock
Edana - Ewe, Mioget
Edana brings Painted Knoll genetics to our flock. Edana is tiny, feminine, cute, cute, and oh—by the way—she's cute. At the same age as Teague, she's barely half his size, although she's growing a fleece that surpasses her stature: it's even in crimp and staple, and a lovely apricot-toned pale brown. |
Teague - Wether, Black Katmoget
Manon gave us a stunner in the spring of 2011. Teague is a katmoget with the most striking contrast of colors in his fleece: dark underneath with cool white tips. When Teague walks away, his white fleece appears to 'float' atop his rich black undercoat. |
Maisie - Ewe, Moorit
Maisie is lots of things: adventurous, goofy and gorgeous (and she knows it). A moorit of the deepest redest mahogany brown, she has a more primitive-type fleece, yet even and soft. Her striking ringlets always make me look twice.
Dougal - Wether, Shetland Black
Dougal is one of "The Twins." His fleece is a true deep black with the smallest amount of brown bleaching on the tips, and a surprising shine. He grows even locks of ringlets from his head to his tail, and is oh!—so very soft.
Tynan - Wether, Moorit
This handsome boy, the other half of "The Twins," grows the thickest fleece with amazing crimp. He is truly a wool-growing machine, his fleece is amazingly soft and a rich chestnut-brown color.
Finnean, a.k.a "Finny McFinn" - Wether, Shaela/Emsket
If there were ever such a thing as a leprechaun sheep, it would be Finnean: he's friendly and playful, but also independent, and he's definitely one of the trouble-makers of the flock. When he was a lamb, his white forehead formed a full wreath around his head, which must be an omen for something. He grows a huge fleece that is a shiny graphite with red tips. Every year at shearing this fleece is consistently stunning.
Manon - Ewe, Black, Iset
The black sheep in the flock, Manon is a real personality: she is always first at the gate (and leaping on the gate) and wants to be in the center of any activity. Don't be fooled by her hyper nature though, she's content to stand in the pasture with you all day, chin on your knee, getting scratches. A true black, with white hairs (iset), this fleece cards up to a lovely dark charcoal and is surprisingly soft.
Rex - Wether, Light grey.
Sweet Rex, he just calmly goes through his day eating and growing as much wool as possible. Known for his long morning naps in the sun, his fleece is the lightest possible grey and in full fleece he looks like a round barrel, so crimpy his wool stands on end. His nickname is "The Marshmallow."
Cricket - Ewe, Mioget
A wonderful, gentle girl, Cricket is an absolute dear who grows the most adorable ringlets of wool. She is an absolutely wonderful mother. Her fleece is the most wonderful pale cream color with an underlying shine. Intensely crimpy, heartbreakingly fine, it's a test every year to give this fleece up for sale.
Russel - Wether, Moorit, Iset
Russel is the lover boy, the number one kiss giver, the man. He will follow you anywhere and just gaze up at you calmly asking to be hugged. He always accompanies us to shows and fairs as our Shetland ambassador. At home he has charged himself with being flock guardian and while the others graze you will see him standing at the top of the hill keeping watch. He grows a primitive style fleece in great wavy locks. Every year this fleece makes my shearer stand back and go "wow."
